He sees it all as a result of his passion for Rotary's Four Way Test, Is It Beneficial to All Concerned? Yes it is.

Scott Bemis: New Freedom: A Prison Alternative

Scott Bemis will discuss NewFreedom, a unique program for reintroducing inmates into society with a 95% success rate. The program is based out of Arizona, but they are considering rolling out a similar program in Colorado. Scott will tell us about the program and why it is so unique and so effective as a model to keep those who have served their time out of the prison system for good.

Meet our Afghan Refuge Family

Join us in meeting the Alkosay family through the Afghan Allies Refuge program at Project Worthmore.  There are nine members in the family, and we will meet them, share food and begin to get to know them.  The Club will sponsor the family for a least a year and assist them in meeting the many needs that they will have.  More information can be found on the Club's Home Page.

Mark Rudolph: Restoring a Superfund Site

Jennifer Querman: The Butterfly Pavilion

Jennifer Querman, Executive Director of The Butterfly Pavilion, has so much to share about the current programs at the Pavilion.  There are upcoming community volunteer opportunities to pique our interenst.  The Pavilion's global research team heads to Tanzania in February for work that is being done there.  There are also educational initiatives and plans for building a 81,000-square foot facility (nearly three times the size as our current building) to open in 2025 in Broomfield.

Janine Kempfer: Historical Housing Discrimination

Club member Janine Kempfer will discuss the history of discrimination in housing in this country.  Black homeownership is at its lowest point since the 1960’s - when discrimination and segregation was legal. To understand the issues of today, we must understand the history. Janine will shed a light on how housing laws and practices of the past still have an impact on Black homeownership and wealth creation today. She will also discuss what actions are being taken to improve those numbers.

Cynthia Wellbrook: Hosting an Afghan Family

Cynthia will talk about her experience in hosting an Afghan family in her home.  In late 2021, Cynthia brought an Afghan family into her condominium as a host until the family could find a home of their own. Thus began an odyssey of cultural discovery and self-discovery, each learning from the other. Perhaps the hardest thing she has done, it certainly has proven the most rewarding. Cynthia will relay the story to us of this fascinating experience.

CEC high school Students and BrainWise

Highschool students from CEC (Early College in Denver) will present how they integrated BrainWise into Dr.Suess stories with 3rd and 4th graders. BrainWise was founded by our very own Pat Gorman Barry.

Off-site Meeting at Byron White US Courthouse

We will have an offsite meeting at the historic the Byron White United States Courthouse.  Completed between 1910 and 1916, with its monumental presence and dramatic public spaces, the courthouse is an excellent example of the Neoclassical architecture that dominated federal building design at the turn of the 20th century. Occupying an entire city block in downtown Denver and standing four stories in height, the building reflects the academic characteristics of the Neoclassical style with its symmetrical design, classical details, and imposing manner. We will also get a complete behind the scenes tour.
